Radical changes coming for the home improvement business in New Jersey

On January 8, 2024, the “Home Improvement and Home Elevation Contractor Licensing Act” was signed into law. It repeals and replaces the Contractors' Registration Act for the regulation of home improvement and home elevation contractors.

A new oversight board, the New Jersey State Board of Home Improvement and Home Elevation Contractors, was given ten months to develop and issue regulations that will set ethical, education and experience standards for the licensing and conduct of home improvement and home elevation contractors, and financial security requirements for the registration of home improvement and home elevation businesses.
