Contractors Pollution Liability; CRIS Recertification

For immediate release

As a dedicated construction attorney who litigates coverage disputes and other cases overlaid by contractual risk transfer and insurance issues, I am very pleased to announce that I have just completed the International Risk Management Institute, Inc. (IRMI) course in Contractors Pollution Liability.

Many contractors face the significant and sometimes severe risk of causing or worsening pollution on the jobsite. Exposure to liability for damage due to environmental contamination can be addressed by the purchase of Contractors Pollution Liability (CPL) coverage, a special form of insurance designed to pick up where the standard commercial general liability policy leaves off. Designed originally to protect the contractor, knowledgeable property owners may also insist on including Contractors Pollution coverage as a nonnegotiable requirement in their contracts.

After studying and passing the test for the Contractors Pollution Liability course, I was recertified as a Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) through August of 2022. The CRIS insurance designation recognizes specialized expertise in construction insurance, and demonstrates one’s commitment to the construction industry through an ongoing continuing education component focusing on construction risk and insurance. The core curriculum for the CRIS program consists of the five courses listed below:

Commercial Auto, Surety, CIPs, and Miscellaneous Lines
Commercial Liability Insurance for Contractors
Contractual Risk Transfer in Construction
Property Insurance for Contractors
Workers Compensation for Contractors

Last year, I maintained my certification by passing the test for course work in Design-Build Risk and Insurance, and since that time I have employed my new knowledge again and again in my case load. This year, studying the materials for Contractor Pollution Liability, I have been impressed again by the direct, practical relevance of the principles presented.

I am proud to have renewed and increased the capacity of my law firm to address and handle the challenges faced by our clients in this essential part of their business.
